The Hope of the World

In a world of darkness and evil at every turn, where does redemptive love and hope lie?

Politicians claim to have power, but only can make rules.  They can’t touch hearts.  Thus, the local church is the most important work on the face of the globe.  Many good and important works exist.  Education and health initiatives have their merits.  Large and small businesses of the world are necessary enterprises that bless the world.  But the local congregation of God’s people contains the greatest purpose in all the world.

The purpose of the church is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the whole world (Mat. 28:18-20).  The church has the responsibility of being the body of Christ on earth (Eph. 1:20-21).  It is through the church that people are loved, helped, and touched with the gospel.  Truly only the story of Jesus’ redemptive death on Calvary’s cross can change lives.  The church has that message.  The church is the only blood-bought institution on earth which was purchased by God’s Son.

We ought to do all we can to build up the church.  We ought to love the church, pray for it daily, speak well of the church, and serve for the glory of the church.  It is the hope of the world!

Bill Hybels book Courageous Leadership – ch. 1 emphasizes this point.
