Doing Even More than Required

Paul tells Philemon that he is confident of his obedience, even believing he will do even more than he says (v. 21). There are two general categories of people; those who do the bare minimum to scrape by and those who go above and beyond to do a job well. Paul had faith in Philemon that he would obey and carry forth his wishes in a way that was even above and beyond his request.

What type of person are you? When given a task at work: do you do the minimum, or more than is required? Are you a hard worker? A successful worker learns early on to not look to the boss every time to tell him what to do, but to take initiative and look for jobs that need doing.

When it comes to your spiritual service to God, what type of a person are you? Do you try to figure out God’s minimum requirements? Like, how little do I have to attend church? In your church work, do you go above and beyond to do a job with your given ministry, Bible class, or service project?

If you were to think of God as your employer and his teachings and church work as your job, what would God think about your work? Would he think you are the type of worker that does “even more than I say” or would he always be looking over your shoulder checking up on you because he knows you will only do the bare minimum?

Think about it!
