Creation Should Cause Us to Praise God!

We live indoors!  We don’t spend enough time under the stars.  We are so busy with TV, phones, and Facebook that we don’t contemplate the incredible vastness of space.  We rarely go for hikes in the woods or watch some wild animals playing.

Creation for many of us has become a truth or scientific position that must be defended against evolution.  I certainly believe this is a needed defense and stand behind the Genesis account of creation.  Yet, as I read Scripture, I learn that creation is not spoken of as a theory or position to be believed, but as a fact that is assumed.  Paul said in Romans 1:20 that creation makes God’s eternal power and divine nature “clearly perceived.”

So what is the point of creation in Scripture! 

Creation should cause us to glorify and praise God.  The Psalms are filled with examples (Psalm 8, 24, 33, 104, etc).  Revelation puts it plainly as it pictures the four living creatures and the 24 elders worshiping before the throne singing, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” 

Viewing and contemplating creation should make us praise and glorify the Creator.

Maybe one of the reasons our culture is turning away from God so much is that we have lost the connection with nature.  We live in concrete jungles with super-markets offering us fresh foods from around the world.  We buy into our own self-sufficiency and largeness.  Being in creation reminds us of our smallness and need for God (Psalm 8).
