A Week of Tragedy

This has been a difficult week for our nation.  I wanted to share with my readers some of the articles that I have appreciated that relate to the church of Christ.

BOSTON

The Christian Chronicle had a good post about a Boston Minister who narrowly missed being at the finish line as his daughter was running the race.

I was away from the internet and news for Monday and Tuesday, so didn’t read much about the Boston tragedy.  But this news story on Yahoo was interesting as it shows three of the iconic photos from the scene and explains what happened to the people involved.

WEST, TEXAS

Galatians 6:10 teaches us to do good to all men, but especially to those of the household of faith.

The tragedy in West, Texas really hits close to home as it involves the church directly.  An elder and his family owned the business and the preacher and his home were destroyed.  They have four small children, and likely would have lost their lives if they would have been at home.

Churches and individuals can help the church and the church’s ministry to the community through various ways.  Here are some links.

This is the West, TX church’s Facebook page.  You can check it for updates throughout.

This is an informative news report by Brotherhood News with information on assisting.

This is an article at the Christian Chronicle about the church.

Brethren let us pray for both of these tragedies and the people affected.  Let us help when we can to make a difference.

Let me close with an appropriate Psalm.

“O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.  O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.”   (Psalms 131:1–3 ESV)

May those affected still and calm their souls through hope in the Lord as this Psalm encourages.
